This is the TV programme my dad talked about. It seems like he got some bits wrong when he told me the story, but really, it's still really amazing! (Summary version, still in simplified Chinese)
(It's a story about the adventures of a 58 years-old Chinese woman, who had never been out of the country and didn't know ANY English whatsoever. One day she suddenly decided she was going to go to America, alone, with only $300 in her pockets. You've just got to admire her courage. If you google her name, you'll find quite a few articles on her travels.)
“一年以后，签证到期，我回国了。去的时候带的是300美元，回来的时候已经变成了2万美元。在这一年中，我领略了一个异国的美丽景色和不同的文化与生活，还交了很多新的朋友。在我回国后，经常能接到他们的电话，有咨询恋爱问题的，还有谈自己的发展苦恼的。他们在异国向我求助，问我‘怎么办’，我就靠自己的人生经验和对人的观察，尽可能给他们提出我的建议。这次异国之旅我发现，语言并不是最重要的。人有勇气，有素质，走到哪里都会有办法。而且，这世界上大多数人是十分友善的，他们愿意帮助一个执著和有想法的人，你也可以在很多时候帮助别人。这让我感到人活着是很好的一件事。只要你拥有过，你就没有白活。”
