A schools list, and an invite-a-friend feature? Doesn't this look like, OMG, ICQ!??!?

Right, regarding this new "schools" thing on the LJ userinfo page. I'm sure some people find it useful, but to me, it's a complete waste of time and effort. Schools are not countries, so many of them open and close every year across the world. They're relying on the users to keep the list updated, but they go and verify stuff (otherwise I'll list Seigaku there for Tezuka's info page!) and I mean... I just don't want it there. I don't want it to say "none listed" as if I haven't finished filling in my info. It should just not be there if I didn't list anything, like the "interests" option. Urgh.

This is starting to become like ICQ info page! >:E

And for US, fine, list it under provinces. For other countries, follow their system for god's sake. You don't say Linc is the province of Lincoln, and Scot isn't short for Scotland. This is using American standards in places that don't apply and it's stupid, not to mention arrogant.

Found both my US school and my current uni. SO not using this feature, I didn't paticularly like school so thanks no thanks.

i'm debating adding a random "school" somewhere, i haven't decided yet, and just get all my friends to join simply to abuse the feature. it really is impressively pointless. if anything it'd make more sense as an extra search function

From a professional perspective, I would very much like to know what discussion LJ had with school heads, IT managers and child safety officers before introducing this particular little feature. ._.

I think you should ask them ^^" afaik, none, and I remember a long time ago when they started compiling the schools list, they just made a post on the news comm and told people to contribute. It's all very raw and unprofessional (much like the rest of LJ, really >_>)

I already have. Of course, they won't take any notice of me because I'm just another user to them but if you ever hear of an LJ ban in Welsh schools...
