It might make me a miserable git, but I take comfort in the fact that Rhydian has a career anyway, because anyone would be mad not to snap him up, and the fact that, year after year, we've seen people in exactly the same vein as Leon, with the same sort of bluesy/soul/Rat Pack style voice (Steve, Ray, Andy, etc) release a few singles, then fall off the face of the Earth because the interest just isn't there. Honestly, being cynical, for all everyone was rallying behind him tonight, I don't think Leon has staying power, a commercial enough bent, or anywhere near enough charisma to have longevity.
I had a feeling Leon would win the teenage girl vote, though, so I wasn't really expecting Rhydian to snatch it, to be honest. Meh.
That's really true. Time will definitely tell. Where's Ray gone anyway? XD Speaking of Ray, when I heard that they were going to sing "When You Believe" for the final song, I thought "ah, just like last year, they chose a song knowing who can sing it better" because last year they chose a song that obviously showed off Leona a lot better than Ray... I suppose that made the results surprising to me. Rhydian's rendition of the song was so much better...

X-factor is a highly manipulated show. They allow 'characters' like Rhydian their run for the viewing figures, confident that the teenage girlies (and many other viewers) will be voting for the pretty boy in the end. I don't think there's been a real upset since Will Young beat Gareth Gates and you could tell from their reactions back then that they'd practically issued the Gareth cd already!
I would've been a little bit sad if Leon had lost. Though I wouldn't have begrudged Rhydian it at all, cos he was totally good enough; but Leon constantly surprised me with how good his voice actually is! He's a very good singer - and of course, I was always melted by how much he cried. XD
