Damn.

I keep wanting to talk about writing, but Tumblr isn't the place because nobody gives a shit, Facebook isn't the place because that's not where I do fandom, and LJ isn't the place because nobody is in my fandoms. 100k+ words in 3 fandoms which virtually none of my friends are in. Whee.

And before anyone says "you can still talk about it, I'll read it" well yes, but that's the same as talking to friends about stuff that only interests you. They'd smile and nod but can't share your enthusiasm, which makes you feel guilty about wasting their time and the whole exercise pretty pointless anyway.

I don't feel guilty about talking to my fangirl friends about things that interest me - just like I don't feel my time has been wasted if they talk about things that interest them! I think it's interesting hearing about what new things people are into!

I suppose you're right, but for me that works only for broader topics and general "this is why I like this show" sort of thing... when I want to talk about specific plot points and characterisation, it's just not going to work.

I know the feeling. I have a friend who's very open to just about anything, so I can usually get her into my fandoms but I don't see her very often. My roommate is also very open and humors me by listening and relating to my woes for fandoms, but he doesn't get into them himself so it's not the same.

Times like that, it'd be nice if you could split yourself in two. Then you'd never be left wanting.

On a side note, I finally acquired Fire Emblem, so I look forward to reading your 'Pretender' story once I finish the game.

I wouldn't necessary say it would be a waste of your time, it's just that other than topics that can be verified upon reading said post I can't go much further into it because I lack knowledge.

But I know what you mean, in my Portuguese blog whenever I ramble about drag queens no one gives two flying turds to whatever I'm rambling, those posts remain uncommented unless it's a music video that someone can "Ah, funny!", or makeup, whenever I ramble about makeup no one gives two turds either.

Yeah I do know the feeling, it's pretty rough. And tumblr is like this weird trap where it's like AH! OTHER PEOPLE WHO LIKE THINGS I LIKE! and then somehow it's impossible to have conversations about anything.

I so agree on the tumblr thing.

[identity profile] citiesandsigns.livejournal.com 2014-01-17 10:30 am (UTC)(link)
I've been using tumblr for... two years? And I haven't actually made a single friend there, as in, person I can have a conversation with. I have friends on tumblr who I sometimes talk to there, but I started talking to all of them somewhere else, and usually still talk to them more in other places as well.

The answer appears to be 'exchange skype details ASAP' honestly.

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2014-01-17 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's wanting to have a discussion rather than just one person talking at another...

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2014-01-17 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's just not the same! Can't have a proper discussion when the other side don't know 90% of what you're on about.

Ooooh, enjoy the game! The fic is... um, don't expect too much. >_>

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2014-01-17 05:44 pm (UTC)(link)
That'd require finding people on Tumblr you'd like to talk with - and the format of Tumblr is such that you just don't know if you want to talk to them on Skype when you can hardly talk to them in brief comments. Also, to be interested in talking to people requires genuine interest, which'd usually involve yourself and those people willing to blog stuff that's not fandom stuff or reblogs, talk about personal life at a place that is fully public. Which... urgh.

(There was usually an interim 'exchange PMs' period, but otherwise, yeah, I know. It takes less to trigger genuine interest for me than it does for you.)

[identity profile] yuki-scorpio.livejournal.com 2014-01-17 05:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Exchanging PMs feels really invasive. "Hi I like all your reblogs and the posts about your cats can we be friends" even in better English is still weird-people-out material...

[identity profile] eolo.livejournal.com 2014-01-18 12:53 pm (UTC)(link)
I guess a lot of people are used to talk instead of having conversations.
